The Buffalo State University Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) Summer Program provides students with an engaging summer experience that combines STEM enrichment, academic development, career exploration, and hands-on learning opportunities.
When is the STEP Summer Program?
Summer program dates and schedules are released later in the academic year. Students and families should check the STEP website for updates.
What do students do during the Summer Program?
Students participate in a variety of activities designed to make summer learning engaging and meaningful, including:
STEM-focused classes and hands-on activities
Academic enrichment
Career and college exploration
Workshops and special presentations
Field trips and educational experiences
Opportunities to develop new skills and connect with other STEP students
Is the Summer Program free?
Yes. There is no cost for eligible STEP students to participate.
Are lunch and transportation provided?
Yes. Students participating in the summer program receive free lunch and bus passes to assist with transportation to and from the program.
Can students earn a summer stipend?
Summer stipends are based on participation in the Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship & Employment Program.
Students must apply separately to Mayor’s Summer Youth and meet their eligibility and program requirements. Students selected through Mayor’s Summer Youth may be placed with Buffalo State STEP as their summer worksite placement.
Participation in STEP does not guarantee selection or employment through Mayor’s Summer Youth.
Where is the Summer Program held?
The STEP Summer Program is held on the Buffalo State University campus. Specific buildings and room locations are provided to participating students and families before the program begins.
Who can participate?
The Summer Program is designed for eligible STEP students in grades 7–12. Space may be limited each summer.
How do I express interest for Summer 2027?
Families interested in the 2027 STEP Summer Program should complete our waitlist form. Joining the waitlist allows STEP to collect your information and contact you when Summer 2027 program details and enrollment information become available.
